Fallout 76 Mocks Presidential Alert System

By Joshua Duckworth

On October 3, there was a test of the presidential alert system that went out to every US citizen’s phone shortly after 1 PM. It read: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”

This emergency system was met with some criticism, but also some hilarious responses, including a Star Wars meme suggesting Order 66 be enacted. Of those responses, one of the funniest came from the official Fallout 76Twitter account, which parodied and mocked the alert.

As seen further below, Fallout 76 called this tweet an Overseer Alert. Mocking the capitalization, it began with the same “THIS IS A TEST” but replaces the “National Wireless Emergency Alert System” with the “Vault-Tec Emergency Alert System.” The tweet went on to remind players that no action was needed until November 14 when Fallout 76 launches.

This hilarious response hit it off with its followers, reaching 4984 retweets and 22904 likes at the time of this writing. For many gamers, the forthcoming beta is one of the biggest game releases and events for October 2018. Likely, this tweet could go a long way in fan support of the latest entry in the franchise, though it has often by criticized for its move to an online-only style.

One response suggested that followers go out on November 6 to vote before returning to Vault 76 and waiting until November 14. This prompted a response from the Twitter account, stating, “Good Call!” For those getting a good kick out of this, it’s worth mentioning that over 400 hours of footage from Fallout 76 is expected to arrive next Monday so they may want to keep an eye on the game’s social media accounts.

Moreover, as many waits to hit the ground of Appalachia, they need to know that they will be emerging with players from the same console for now. Although Sony has finally begun to support cross-play, Fallout 76 is not planning to support the initiative. Of course, with launch only a few weeks away, it’s understandable why it is not a priority.

Fallout 76 launches on November 14, 2018, for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The Beta starts on October 23 for Xbox One and then October 30 for PlayStation 4 and PC.
